Milk has been produced by the families of Ad and Annette van Velde for generations. In 1988 they moved from Moerkapelle (South Holland) to an existing dairy farm in Kantens in North Groningen. In 1999 a new location was founded, close to the old one. In 2016 we added a free-stall barn and started grazing again. This way we achieve even more cow comfort, more transparency, more sustainability, and take society’s expectations into account.

Our dairy cows are the foundation of our business. On the land we grow the crops that form the basis of healthy feed for the cows — all in as natural a way as possible. It is remarkable that cows can produce such a high-quality product as milk from feed unsuited to human consumption. We treat our herd with great respect. They provide the income for the Van Velde family and delicious, healthy dairy products for many.
Every day we enjoy working in a natural environment centered on the wellbeing of our animals. It is wonderful to smell freshly cut grass in the spring, or to work between the warm bodies of the cows on a cold winter morning. It is also wonderful to teach a newborn calf to drink — knowing that the animal will remain with you for many years. In the autumn it is rewarding to see that the summer was productive again and that plenty of feed has been produced for the cows.

Milk must be a fair product. At Hunsingo Dairy we produce as much of our milk as possible from roughage. The basis for this is being land-bound: we grow the roughage on our own farm, on very good clay soil close to the Wadden Sea — a region with the purest air in the Netherlands. Cows are ruminants, so good-quality roughage is the foundation for good milk production.
Dairy products
We deliver day-fresh dairy products with a fully transparent production process — from growing the fodder crops on the land, through milk production on the farm, to the final production of milk, yoghurt and other dairy products. We offer a guaranteed fair and sustainable product with a 100% transparent production chain.
